Xincheng district rides robust growth in high-tech sectors

In the first half of 2024, Xincheng district of Hohhot made significant strides in its economic development.
It did so by focusing on high-quality urban living, high-end services, high-tech innovation and green living.
The district's GDP hit 37.22 billion yuan ($5.13 billion) in the six months, a 5-percent increase year-on-year. The tertiary industry, with a value of 33.36 billion yuan, contributed 91.9 percent to the economic growth, becoming the primary driver of the district's stable economic progress.
Industrial output surged, with the added value of industries above a designated size growing by 106.5 percent, the highest in the city. Elsewhere, retail sales of consumer goods amounted to 14.24 billion yuan, marking a 2.7-percent increase, ranking it second in the city.

The Hohhot Science and Technology City headquarters in Xincheng has attracted numerous high-tech business enterprises, like Zhejiang Tsinghua Yangtze River Delta Research Institute.
Newly arrived tech firms are swiftly setting up operations, enhancing the base's innovative environment.
Recent initiatives have underscored Xincheng's shift from traditional industries to high-tech sectors. Prominent headquarters like H3C, the Shandong Energy Group and tech giant Huawei's regional base are either operational or under construction. These efforts are in line with the district's goals of becoming a significant technological hub in North China.
Xincheng has also improved its urban infrastructure, enhanced its public services and green spaces, renovated 42 old residential areas and added 7,000 parking spaces.
The district has actively promoted the digital economy, exhibitions and the sports economy – hosting numerous conferences, concerts and sports events, contributing to its vibrant economic landscape.
