Technology empowers Hohhot's winter blueberry growth
Hohhot's extreme winter temperatures, which can drop below -30 C, are unsuitable for blueberry cultivation. However, at the Jiashi Blueberry Smart Park Base in Taosihao village, Xincheng district, an automated monitoring system tracks temperature and humidity in real-time, while integrated water and fertilizer equipment precisely delivers nutrients. This results in a fertilizer utilization rate of over 90 percent for blueberry roots, saving 30 percent more water than traditional farming methods.

Blueberries grown in northern facility agriculture benefit from significant day-night temperature differences, providing higher sugar and anthocyanin content and making them popular in the Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta markets. Once the project is completed, the 26 smart greenhouses will produce 480,000 kilograms of blueberries annually. Fresh northern fruits are becoming winter favorites in southern markets, with the base having already signed supply agreements with produce distributors in Shanghai and other regions, targeting high-end fruit markets in the south.
In recent years, Xincheng district has utilized opportunities arising from structural adjustments in the agricultural industry to guide Taosihao village in developing facility agriculture. Through a "base + cooperative + farmer" model, villagers are encouraged to participate in the entire blueberry cultivation, management, and sales process.
