Hohhot committed to safeguarding ecological environment
In recent years, Hohhot's forestry and grassland bureau has implemented various measures to rigorously strengthen the supervision and protection of forest and grassland resources.
In 2025, the bureau installed 13 sets of video surveillance equipment in key areas, and conducted waterbird monitoring in key migratory stopover areas. Relying on Hohhot's six wildlife rescue institutions, over 400 wild animals were rescued in 2025.
Hohhot has established multiple wetlands. The city's wetland protection rate increased from 26.72 percent in 2021 to 35.2 percent today.
The forestry and grassland department completed a comprehensive survey of the city's forests, grasslands, and wastelands. In 2025, 36 monitoring points were set up in important wetlands and areas, collecting 107 soil samples and 105 microbial samples.
Hohhot currently has 166 scattered ancient trees and 10 ancient tree groups (containing 14,098 ancient trees). Each ancient tree in Hohhot has its own "ID card", accessible via QR code.
Since 2021, the city has included funding for the protection of ancient and famous trees in the municipal budget, organizing experts to develop tailored plans for endangered ancient trees. By the end of 2025, protection work for 98 ancient trees had been completed. The forestry and grassland bureau has also printed albums and produced promotional videos and microfilms to inspire public participation in the protection of ancient and famous trees.
In designated fire prevention areas, staff members take shifts to clear combustible materials from forests and grasslands while monitoring conditions through real-time remote video.
