Haicang links closer to Gulangyu with improved ferry line
Songyu Wharf in Haicang district, Xiamen, Fujian province has introduced a new timetable for the Songgu ferry line starting from Oct 20.
The “maritime bus route”, featuring transport and sightseeing, links Sonyu Wharf closer with Neicuo’ao Wharf on Gulangyu Island in Xiamen’s Siming district. The whole trip takes only eight minutes, with the aim of relaxing the land traffic pressure from Haicang to Gulangyu Island, a famous tourist attraction. Tourists can enjoy the costal scenery and Fujian history told by voluntary students during the ferry journey.
The route is one of the efforts by the Xiamen government to improve the wharf environment, providing sufficient parking spaces, adding more ferries and optimizing services.
Attractions in Haicang
The 2014 Cross-Straits Lohas (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability) Festival opened in Haicang on Oct 14 and will last until December. Tourists can participate in Lohas activities in the arts, sports and entertainment, including a cross-Straits concert, public walking, a Taiwan gourmet festival and rural eco-tours.
The round-trip tickets on the Songu ferry line on a single day, can be used as a ticket to Xiamen’s tourist attractions, such as the Tianzhushan scenic spot.
The new timetable for Songyu ferry line:
A ferry every 30 minutes
Songyu Wharf – Neicuo’ao Wharf
Summer: 7:15 am to 6:15 pm
Winter: 7:15 am to 5:30 pm
Neicuo’ao Wharf – Songyu Wharf
Summer: 7:10 am to 6:30 pm
Winter: 7:15 am to 5:30 pm
