Xiamen closes one slaughter house
Xinglin slaguter house in Jimei district, Xiamen, Fujian province was closed on Oct 30th after its 14-year operation since 2000.
The abattoir was the major pork supplier for the adjacent towns, including Xinglin, Dongfu, Guankou, and Xinyang. With the economic development in Jimei district, the butchery blossomed with 500 slaughterings a day. The slaughter wastewater and waste increased, eventually to overwhelm the capacity of the old disposal equipment. The environmental pollutants badly affected the daily lives of residents in the surrounding areas.
Xiamen’s municipal government decided to close the slaughterhouse in 2013 to regulate the butchering industry and shape an intensive and standardized slaughter house. After one year's effort by the Xiamen and Jimei district governments, it was closed on Oct 30th.

In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
