Xiamen exports chrysanthemums to Japan and South Korea
Xiamen exported 421 batches of chrysanthemums weighing 4,294 tons in 2014, with a year-on-year increase of 214 percent and 222 percent respectively. With a quadrupled export value, the fresh cut flowers were all exported to Japan and South Korea.
Xiamen enterprises took measures to cultivate chrysanthemum flowers with high quantity and quality, including choosing high-yielding species with strong disease resistance, enlarging cultivated areas, and strictly controlling the processing, packaging and storage.
The Japanese favor chrysanthemums in memorial activities, and like to choose it for the consecration of ancestors and gods. South Korea has raised the demand for chrysanthemum in recent years, influenced by Chinese and Japanese cultures.
