Xiamen recently destroyed three tons of smuggling products – mainly frozen meat, mutton and fish from infected areas, including India.

On the one hand, smuggled frozen products weaken national revenues and trade orders for imports and exports, and impact domestic husbandry and aquaculture. On the other hand, they avoid inspection and quarantine, which means it is not known if they are from infected areas or tainted in some way. Products infected with bacteria of bird flu, aftosa or BSE, will cause a health crisis if they enter the market.

Xiamen governmental officials said the destruction aims to alert frozen product shops to pay attention to food safety and check customs declarations and quarantine certificates when importing goods. They also called on people to buy certificated frozen goods from legitimate shops.
