A delegation from Hong Kong government, led by Chief Secretary for Administration Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, visited Fujian province on Jan 22 to attend the first Fujian-Hong Kong Cooperation Conference.

The visit by HK Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying chief to Fujian a year ago laid a solid foundation for communication and cooperation between the two sides. And Fujian believes Lam’s visit this time will further boost the ties, said You Quan, Fujian’s Party Secretary.

Fujian was recently approved by Central authorities to set up a free trade zone (FTZ), and has been designated as a pivotal point on the 21st Maritime Silk Road, which provides vast room for cooperation with Hong Kong, which has one of the most advanced free and open economies in the world, he added.

Hong Kong and Fujian have maintained close relationships for a long time. The establishment of the FTZ in Fujian will attract a number of Hong Kong’s enterprises to make investments in Fujian, said Lam.
