The air quality of Xiamen city in February ranked third among 74 cities by the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the highest ever, Haixia Moring Post has reported.

Xiamen saw 27 out of 28 days with fine quality during the period, only behind Lhasa and Haikou on the ranking.

Experts attribute the clear days to an odd-and-even license plate rule imposed during the Spring Festival holidays, which has helped to cut automobile emission. Many construction sites also suspended work in the period, leading to little dust.

Another reason is that there were no cold fronts from the north around Spring Festival, which avoid pollution caused by smog, said experts.
