Xiamen proposes new city construction plan

Xiamen, in east China’s Fujian province, has put forth a preliminary construction plan for a new city area in Tong'an district. The development is expected to expand the district’s residential capacity by 105,000 once completed.

According to the city’s local authorities, the core area of the new city area will cover an area of 19.61 square kilometers, 1.61 square kilometers larger than the previous plan, and will relocate 80,000 permanent residents while 25,000 will stay for work.

The local authority has also laid out a comprehensive plan to upgrade its infrastructure, emphasizing on the construction of schools, hospitals, nursing homes and sports centers. According to the plan, 14 primary and middle schools will be built in the new city area.
