International fishery expo opens in Xiamen

The 10th China International (Xiamen) Fishery Expo opened on May 25 in Xiamen, Fujian province.

The expo accommodates 412 exhibitors with 941 booths. It will last for three days, in which time it is expected to attract approximately 50,000 visitors. The 7th International Shrimp Industry Development Forum will open as an accessorial activity and the latest developments in the fishery industry will be showcased during the expo.

The output of the fishery industry in Fujian amounted to 6.95 million tons of produce in 2014, ranking 3rd in China. Leading the way in China that year were the city’s fishery industry value, which stood at 232.9 billion yuan ($375.7 billion), the average income of fisherman in the city (14,634 yuan) and the foreign exchange revenue generated by fishery exports, which amounted to 5.59 billion yuan."
