Xiamen in East China’s Fujian province will ramp up a green transportation campaign by putting more than 300 new-energy buses into service this year, authorities said.

The city plans to add 40 plug-in hybrid electric buses, and 170 new-energy buses in addition to the 140 currently in operation, said Zhang Shizhao, deputy director of the municipal economic and informatization bureau on Thursday.

Furthermore, the Xiamen Bus Group will erect 400 charging poles for electric vehicles in four locations, and 11 charging stations in bus stations. The government will subsidize 20 to 40 percent of the cost, he said.

To encourage people to buy pure electric passenger vehicles, the government will subsidize the buyer in accordance with the national standard, with the cap not more than 80 percent of the car’s selling price, or 120,000 yuan.

Qualified new-energy cars will be exempt from vehicle purchase taxes.
