Xiameners' height above national average

It is time to ditch the stereotype that men in South China are dwarfed by their counterparts from the North. Well, at least that theory doesn't apply in Xiamen, Fujian province.

According to a report by the national health authority on Tuesday, the height of Chinese adult males (18 years or older) on average was 167.1 cm, and 155.8 cm for women in 2012.

Both figures are lower than Xiamen's average, as a health report released by the city's health authority in April claims that the average heights are 168.39 cm for men and 157.04 cm for women in the city.

There are many factors related to a person's height, including heredity, nutrition, exercise, life habits, environment and body chemistry, experts say.
