On June 29, the Xiamen Marine Police published its policing alert for the first half of 2015.

According to the document, the Xiamen Marine Police received 63 reports, and saved 11 people and 2 ships in the first half of 2015.

Of all the reports, only four involved cases of individuals trapped on reefs or drowning, down 33 percent compared with the same period last year. Four ship accidents caused by improper operations occurred in the first six months of 2015, slightly more than previous years.

Summer is the season of high incidences of marine accidents. So the Xiamen Marine Police reminded residents and tourists to practice caution. Residents and tourists should limit their time on reefs to within 15 minutes, and recreate only on beaches with rescue teams. Police suggested that ships should always open their AIS systems while at sea.
