The China (Fujian) Pilot Free Trade Zone will play host to a group of overseas Chinese students with doctor's degrees in June, according to ptnet.cn on March 14.

The event is expected to give those top minds a better understanding of the free trade zone (FTZ) and attract them to work or start business there.

Pingtan is among their destinations, thanks to its status as part of the Fujian free trade zone. Other destinations include Fuzhou and Xiamen free trade zones.

The event mainly focuses on professionals in international finance, shipping, international trade, logistics, international laws and cross-border e-commerce.

Related enterprises, universities and industrial parks will also be invited to attend a matchmaking event with the top minds.

The event is being considered a significant move to boost the development of Fujian FTZ if it works well in bringing in talented professionals.

Inaugurated in April 2015, Fujian FTZ consists of three sections in Fuzhou, Xiamen and Pingtan, totaling 118 square kilometers. The zone aims to become a leader in institutional innovation, cross-Straits cooperation and a core area of the modern maritime Silk Road.
