The Xiamen city authorities expect the city's logistics industry to reel in 100 billion yuan in 2016, Fjsen.com reported.

The logistics industry reached 42.7 billion yuan ($6.4 billion) in earnings in Xiamen after the first half of 2016, gaining 5.9 percent annually, while 41 major logistics companies earned a combined 30 billion yuan, up 5.8 percent from last year.

It is estimated that the industry will hit the 100 billion-mark by the end of the year as a result of the infrastructure constructions taking place within the city. The city itself was recently listed as one of the 20 Chinese cities to pilot reformative measures and develop modern logistics industries.

Xiamen invested heavily in the logistics area recently, facilitating the growth of domestic and foreign trade.

Two intercontinental railway cargo routes were launched on August 16, 2015, linking Xiamen to Central Asia, Russia and Europe. The Xiamen-Chengdu-Europe railway cargo route transferred cargo worth of more than $70 million in the first half of 2016, running twice a week, while the Xiamen-Central Asia route runs every 10 days.

Xiamen-Taiwan fast freight sea route, launched in February 2014, currently runs once a day.

The Qianchang railway freight yard, the second largest of its kind in China spanning 380 hectares in the Jimei and Haicang districts, went operational on June 30. It has logistics cooperation with the Xiamen port, a major foreign trade port in Southeast China, and links to the middle and western regions of China through several high-speed railway routes and expressways.

The use of Internet of things technology is included in the design of the cargo yard as a visionary move.
