With the 19th China International Fair of Investment and Trade (CIFIT) now underway, host city Xiamen is hoping to take advantage of its prominent role at the fair to attract a wave of new foreign investment.

The city in Fujian province has organized a series of events to highlight its business-friendly policies during the fair, which runs from Sept 8 to 11.

The huge Xiamen pavilion will dominate the exhibition hall, featuring displays promoting the city’s business environment, industrial strategy, business-friendly policies, development areas and various incubators.

Xiamen is also participating in the organization of a symposium for multinational enterprises, which will be a highlight of the fair. More than 57 global companies such as Bosch, Anheuser-Busch InBev and BP Global are expected to attend the meeting, which is aimed at strengthening communication between government and enterprises.

In addition, a series of other activities is being launched by the city to lure investors. For instance, over 250 Chinese merchants from home and abroad and Fujian company heads were invited to take part in a matchmaking event on Sept 8, where the city also promoted its business environment.

A meeting to explain the business opportunities brought by the country’s Belt and Road Initiative is scheduled for Sept 9, which is available to top local companies and guests of CIFIT.

A Sino-US forum on the biomedicine industry will also take place, which is designed to promote cooperation in biomedicine R&D, technology, and testing.

According to Xiamen officials, the city expects to sign 52 cooperation deals at the fair, covering industries as diverse as integrated circuits, information services, aviation, finance, logistics and tourism.

Major projects expected to be confirmed during the fair include a 2-billion-yuan ($300-million) marine tourism complex to be built by Dalian’s Haichang Group, 21Vianet Group and Unisplendour Corp’s 3-billion-yuan ($450-million) cloud service platform project, and a 3-billion-yuan mobile Internet industrial park by Shenzhen Mobile Internet Industry-Academia-Research-Investment Alliance.
