Xiamen officials promoted the International Fair for Investment and Trade and International Industrial Exposition (XMIE) in Taiwan on Feb 21.

Over 40 people representing business communities in Taiwan took part in the promotional conference, such as the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products (CCCME) Taipei office, Association of Economy and Trade across the Taiwan Straits (AETATS) Taipei branch, and Taiwan Industrial Association.

Also known as the China Xiamen Machinery and Electronics Exhibition (CXMEE), XMIE is exclusively authorized by China’s Ministry of Commerce with co-sponsorship from the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronics Products, Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association, and Xiamen Municipal People’s Government, and has played a key role in developing cross-Straits economic and trade ties since its establishment in 1997. XMIE 2017 will be run at the Xiamen International Conference & Exhibition Center from April 12 to 15, and features a mechanical and electrical products exhibition, investment and trade conference, projects and cross-Straits economic forums.

Li Rongmin, head of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products’s Taipei office, delivered a keynote speech at the conference. He extolled the international fair and XMIE as great platforms for diversely themed exchanges on various industries across the Straits and around the globe. He pointed out that XMIE is one of the oldest exhibition fairs on the Chinese mainland and has developed to be a large scale event for businesses, which will help accelerate the prosperity of cross-Straits mechanical and electrical industries.

Zheng Fuxiong, vice president of Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association -- a major sponsor for XMIE 2017 -- expressed gratitude to Chinese mainland officials who have been consistent in supporting Taiwanese businesses. And he promised to play an active part in the association in flourishing cross-Straits interactions.

Wang Qiongwen, vice-minister of the CIFIT organizing committee’s conference affairs department and director of the Xiamen convention and exhibition bureau, said that Xiamen and Taiwan have proved to be an intimate family despite being spread apart. He put it that Xiamen is made essential in the “One Belt, One Road” initiative and the pilot free trade zone project carried out by Chinese mainland. With the speedy transformation and industrial restructuring over the city, he added, the influence of Xiamen’s pilot free trade zone would be continuously extended far and wide. In the end, he concluded his speech by encouraging businesses in Taiwan to give active response and support to CIFIT 2017 and XMIE 2017.
