Cargo train heads off on maiden trip to Europe
East China's coastal city of Xiamen launched the country's first rail route to Europe under a smart and secure trade lanes (SSTL) program. The cargo train, carrying 38 containers of liquid crystal displays worth 31 million yuan ($4.5 million), departed Xiamen on March 2. The journey to Lodz, Poland, is expected to last 15 days.
Why Xiamen
-
Xiamen is one of the most economically competitive cities in China and was one of the first Special Economic Zones on the Chinese mainland. As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
