Xiamen foreign trade hits monthly record high in September

The foreign trade volume of Xiamen, Fujian province jumped 12 percent year-on-year to 55.53 billion yuan ($8 billion) in September, data from Xiamen Customs show.

The city's export volume surged 14.3 percent year-on-year to 30.27 billion yuan in September while import volume stood at 25.26 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 9.4 percent.

In the first nine months of this year, Xiamen traded 448 billion yuan worth of goods with other countries, up by 3.8 percent year-on-year, accounting for 48.1 percent of Fujian's total foreign trade volume.

The city's trade with emerging markets along the Belt and Road route saw rapid growth in the January-September period. The total trade volume with members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) hit 74.09 billion yuan in the meantime, seeing an increase of 7.9 percent year-on-year.

State-owned companies in Xiamen performed well in the first three quarters of this year with a total foreign trade volume of 112 billion yuan, up by 10.2 percent year-on-year.

A spokesman for the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Commerce said that the city will continue to support the development of cross-border e-commerce, financial leasing, and bonded imports, to encourage local foreign trade companies to establish overall service information platforms.
