The 15th Strait Travel Fair is scheduled to take place at Xiamen International Convention and Exhibition Center in Xiamen, Fujian province from April 19 to 21, according to a press conference held on March 19.
The China (Xiamen) International Leisure Tourism Expo 2019 will also be held over the same period.
The two shows will cover a total exhibition area of 60,000 square meters with estimated 2,600 booths, according to Chen Guilin, deputy director of the Xiamen Municipal Tourism Development Commission.
Chen added that roughly 10,000 traveling salespeople and more than 200,000 visitors are expected to attend the exhibitions.
One highlight of the travel fair is that representatives from travel agencies in 15 different cities and 15 tourism industry exhibitors who have participated in the fair over the past 15 years will be invited to witness the fairs' 15 years of development.
The travel fair this year will also pay close attention to the integrated development of southwestern Fujian province.
According to Chen, more than 30 travel companies from five cities of southwestern Fujian have confirmed their participation.
The Senior Citizen Travel Festival, one of the supporting activities, will offer 500 citizens over 55 from the five Fujian cities free tours to bring more benefits to local citizens.
The Strait Travel Fair was organized by the then China National Tourism Administration in collaboration with the Fujian Provincial People's Government in a bid to advance common development between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan in the tourism industry.
Why Xiamen
-
Xiamen is one of the most economically competitive cities in China and was one of the first Special Economic Zones on the Chinese mainland. As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
