Xiamen convention, exhibition bureau inaugurated
The Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Convention and Exhibition was inaugurated on June 16.
The newly inaugurated institution will be in charge of the development of the MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions) industry in Xiamen.
It will explore new ways to boost the local MICE industry, including the integration of advantageous resources and improvement of the business environment, in a bid to attract more high quality exhibitions and exhibition institutions to the city, which are expected to drive the development of relevant industries, including transportation, tourism, catering, accommodation and advertisement.
After more than 30 years of development, Xiamen is home to a booming MICE industry, which has become a pillar sector of the modern service industry and is worth 100 billion yuan ($14.11 billion).
Xiamen has cultivated CIFIT, the Xiamen International Stone Fair, the Xiamen Industry Expo, and more, and organized many State-level conferences, including the Straits Forum
In 2019, the city hosted 236 exhibitions and 9,978 conferences attended by more than two million people, which brought in over 45 billion yuan to Xiamen, a year-on-year increase of 12 percent.
The latest statistics from the International Congress & Convention Association show that in 2019, Xiamen hosted 17 international conferences, ranking eighth in the Chinese mainland.

Xiamen is one of the most economically competitive cities in China and was one of the first Special Economic Zones on the Chinese mainland. As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
