Semiconductor and IC industry in Xiamen sees robust growth

The coastal city of Xiamen in East China's Fujian province has ramped up efforts to promote the development of the semiconductor industry, with a large number of semiconductor projects being carried out in the city, according to a local news report on June 24.

Xiamen San'an Optoelectronics announced that it will invest 16 billion yuan ($2.27 billion) to establish a subsidiary corporation in Changsha, Central China's Hunan province, which will begin operating within six years.

According to the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, the city has set up three semiconductor industrial clusters - the Torch High-tech Industrial Zone, Haicang district and the Huli area of the Xiamen Free Trade Zone. The city has attracted a number of renowned enterprises such as United Semi and Xiamen Silan Mingjia Compound Semiconductor.

Xiamen is now home to more than 200 companies in the integrated circuit (IC) industry, and a complete industrial chain integrating IC design, manufacturing, closed beta testing, equipment and materials has taken shape in the city.

In recent years, Xiamen has been rolling out an array of measures to promote the development of the city’s semiconductor and IC industry. Statistics show that the total output value of the semiconductor and IC industry reached 43.33 billion yuan, growing by 3.8 percent year-on-year. According to city’s industrial planning, the output value of its semiconductor and IC industry is expected to exceed 100 billion yuan in 2025.
