Xiamen steps up efforts to foster biological medicine industry
The coastal city of Xiamen in East China's Fujian province has spent more than 167 million yuan ($23.98 million) to support the development of its biological medicine industry over the past five years, according to a local news report on Aug 5.
Local authorities said that the funds were allocated to enterprises related to biological medicine and healthcare industries, which have provided strong support for the healthy development of the city's biological medicine sector.
Xiamen is currently in the midst of ramping up efforts to improve the innovation capability, capital and talent of its biological medicine industry.
The city has also issued a notice about accelerating the high-quality development of biological medicine. The notice said that the government will optimize the business environment and provide financial support to enterprises focusing on research and development of new medicines so as to cultivate a national biomedical industry cluster in Xiamen.
Xiamen's biological medicine enterprises have been keenly involved in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic this year, with 32 key projects for epidemic prevention and control launched.
