Xiamen rolls out policies to boost MICE industry
Xiamen in East China's Fujian province recently rolled out policies to promote the development of the MICE industry in the Xiamen Special Economic Zone.
The MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) industry in the city has experienced a quicker rebound in the second half of 2020 after a period of sluggish development due to the COVID-19 epidemic earlier this year.
Xiamen has organized more than 70 large exhibitions and over 2,200 large conventions in the second half of this year, generating more than 12 billion yuan ($1.84 billion) in economic benefits.
The Regulations on Promotion of MICE Industry in Xiamen Special Economic Zone is set to take effect on March 1 next year.
According to the regulations, social capital and overseas investors are encouraged to participate in the construction of exhibition venues and supporting facilities in Xiamen.
MICE companies are encouraged to register trademarks to protect their intangible assets, including exhibition names and logos, and join world-renowned MICE organizations, including the Union of International Fairs.
Competitive MICE companies are encouraged to establish overseas offices to participate in international competitions.
Various companies, industry organizations, intermediary organizations, and individuals are encouraged to introduce or hold exhibitions in Xiamen.
Universities and vocational schools are encouraged to offer majors relevant to the MICE industry and cooperate with renowned MICE schools at home and abroad in an effort to cultivate MICE professionals.
Online exhibitions are encouraged.
The Xiamen government and relevant departments should enhance its relations with international organizations and institutions and introduce world-renowned MICE agencies and exhibitions.
They should also encourage local companies to organize and introduce high-quality exhibitions involving competitive and major industries of Xiamen and support the organization of international, national, and regional high-quality exhibitions in the city.
Why Xiamen
-
Xiamen is one of the most economically competitive cities in China and was one of the first Special Economic Zones on the Chinese mainland. As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
