Xiamen Port makes a flying start in Jan

The container production of Xiamen Port, East China's Fujian province exceeded 1 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) for eight months in a row, according to statistics released by the city's port administration bureau on Feb 7.

Data show that the port had a total container production of over 1 million TEUs in January, an increase of more than 9 percent year-on-year.

An official of the port administration bureau said that the container throughput of Xiamen Container Terminal Group and Xiamen Ocean Gate Container Terminal Company hit 769,700 and 204,400 TEUs in January respectively, with both posting double-digit growth.

In light of the long-term and complex challenges faced on the domestic and international fronts, the port will beef up efforts to optimize its business environment and stabilize the economy, port officials said.

To expedite and ensure the smooth progress of projects that are currently under construction, the port invested 193 million yuan ($29.92 million) in water transport in January.
