The coastal city of Xiamen in East China's Fujian province made remarkable achievements in industrial transformation and upgrading last year, local news reported on April 5.

Xiamen has cultivated four leading industrial chains worth more than 100 billion yuan ($15.29 billion), which are panel displays, computer and communication equipment, software and information services, as well as mechanized equipment. The city is also the world's largest research and development, as well as production base for touch-screen devices.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic last year, Xiamen took concrete and effective measures to stabilize and promote the recovery of its economy.

Statistics show that in 2020, Xiamen's total added value of industrial enterprises above designated size grew by 6 percent year-on-year to 192.59 billion yuan, while its two pillar industries, mechanical engineering and electronics industry, reported a total output value of 496.74 billion yuan, accounting for 67.7 percent of the city's total.

In recent years, Xiamen has made efforts to cultivate leading enterprises and promote the cluster development of pillar industries, aiming to develop them into new growth poles for the city's industrial transformation and upgrading.

Using the multiple advantages given by the country, the city is now pushing forward the industrial transformation of various industries to drive its high-quality economic development.
