Huaqiao University's government-industry-university-research base was launched on July 12 by the university and Jimei district's government in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province.

At the launch ceremony, six enterprises signed cooperation agreements with research teams with self-developed technologies.

The base is located in Vanke Cloud City in Jimei district, close to the university. Sticking to the principle of "government's guidance, university's intelligence, enterprises' leading role, market operation and win-win cooperation", it is designed to satisfy the district's key industries' development demands, solving bottlenecks firms may encounter.

The base can also collect resources related to subject development, talent teams, and research bodies at the university, and make use of these resources in collaborations with local companies.

There are 14 initial research teams and firms being introduced to the base. Dr Fu Shunkai, founder and CEO of one such firm, is also a faculty member of the university's School of Computer Science and Technology.

"Many project members are teachers at the university, and there are nearly 60 students and teachers working at the bases," said Fu, "since the base is just next to the university, we can balance teaching with working very easily."
