Xiamen in Fujian province had a total score of 92, with a growth rate of 7.14 percent in terms of numbers of convenience stores, ranking first in the latest convenience store development index, which was released on Sept 28.

The index was launched by the China Chain Store & Franchise Association in 2014 and has been published for eight consecutive years.

This year's index was calculated based on market saturation of convenience stores, the growth rate of total number of convenience stores, the proportion of 24-hour convenience stores, the business environment of convenience stores in 39 cities across the country, as well as the urban population from the seventh national census.

Detailed statistics showed that in Xiamen, there is one convenience store every 3,443 people, which represents a relatively high market saturation of convenience stores, ranking 7th across the country.

Statistics also showed that 40 percent of convenience stores in Xiamen are open 24 hours a day.

In terms of business environment, Xiamen jumped four places from the previous year's ranking to fourth across the country, behind Beijing, Wuhan in Hubei province, and Nanchang in Jiangxi province.

In addition, Xiamen will host the Convenience Store Convention in 2022, with about 5,000 participants expected.
