The container throughput at Xiamen Port in Xiamen, Fujian province exceeded 10 million twenty-foot equivalent units during the first 10 months of this year, setting a record high, according to the city's port administration on Nov 11.

Xiamen's port administration has also set the goal of exceeding more than 12 million TEUs in container throughput by the end of this year.

Xiamen Port has implemented measures like transferring overtime ships to Xiamen Port and adding new international routes to achieve this goal.

For instance, a new Maritime Silk Road shipping route was added at the Haitian Container Terminal in Xiamen Port, linking ports in countries like Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. The new route is expected to contribute an additional 1,000 TEUs in container throughput per week.

In order to ensure the steady growth of container throughput under the changing COVID-19 epidemic control and prevention situation, Xiamen Port has also taken actions like transferring empty containers and centrally managing workers to ensure the stability of industrial chains and supply chains, said an official of the city's port's administration.
