Xiamen Customs issued 2,207 certificates of origin for free trade agreements between China and Peru worth 843 million yuan ($132 million) in the first 10 months of this year.

The certificates are expected to reduce 42.04 million yuan in tariffs for companies exporting products such as televisions, shoes, automobiles, and clothes.

Due to the certificates, Xiamen's companies exported 1.21 billion yuan worth of products to Peru from January to October, up 21.6 percent from the previous year, according to the statistics from Xiamen Customs.

The certificate of origin represents a supportive policy of the China-Peru free trade agreement, which has been in force since March 2010. It is a document containing information confirming the country of origin for export commodities to enter the field of international trade. Holders of the preferential certificate of origin of FTA issued by local customs can enjoy the preferential tariff policies of the relevant importing countries, thus reducing trade costs.

"Our company has claimed more than 100 certificates of origin this year which has helped us save nearly 2 million yuan in tariffs," said a worker of Xiamen Jialin Foreign Trade Co. The company sees Peru as an important international market.
