Xiamen holds event for 80 major projects

Xiamen in Fujian province held an event for the commencement and completion of 40 major projects as well as signed agreements for another 40 major projects at the Xiamen International Convention and Exhibition Center on Dec 19.

The event was held to celebrate the Xiamen Special Economic Zone's 40 years of reform, opening-up and innovative development.

With a total investment of 68.7 billion yuan ($10.77 billion), 40 major projects that were announced commencement and completion at the event included 25 industrial projects, 10 infrastructure projects, and five social undertakings projects.

Another 40 projects signed agreements at the event with a total investment of over 130 billion yuan. The projects included 16 high-end manufacturing projects, 14 modern service projects, 10 headquarters and financial projects that span industries like integrated circuits, computer and communication equipment, new energy and new materials, logistics, and cultural creation.

Over the past 40 years, many entrepreneurs settled in Xiamen and have contributed to the development of the Xiamen Special Economic Zone, said Cui Yonghui, Party secretary of Xiamen.

Xiamen is bolstering its efforts to develop itself into a modern international city, and companies are the driving force of the city's development, Cui added.

Huang Wenhui, mayor of Xiamen said that the projects that were announced commencement and completion at the event will play an important role in upgrading the city's industrial level, optimizing the city, and improving people's wellbeing.
