Xiamen Port container throughput hits record high in 2021

The container throughput at Xiamen Port in Xiamen, Fujian province reached 12.05 million twenty-foot equivalent units in 2021, up 5.62 percent year-on-year, hitting a record high, according to the city's port administration on Jan 6.
In addition, the cargo throughput of Xiamen Port is estimated to reach 227.5 million tons, up 9.64 percent year-on-year, the water transport turnover of the port reached 257.28 billion tons, up 10.06 percent, and the shipping capacity increased 11.57 percent to exceed 4 million tons for the first time.
Behind the thriving development is the world-class business environment at Xiamen Port. The port was awarded the highest four-star rating in the 2021 business environment assessment among 10 container ports nationwide.
As of 2021, Xiamen Port has 57 shipping routes named after the Silk Road Maritime, China's first Belt and Road international comprehensive logistics service platform focused on shipping.
Xiamen Port also bolstered its efforts to build itself into an intelligent green port. For instance, the Xiamen Ocean Gate Automated Container Terminal, a fully automated terminal, set an example of intelligent terminal construction in China as well as the world.
Xiamen Port has set the goal to achieve an increase of 3 percent to 8 percent in all aspects of production indicators in 2022, said port administration officials.
