Xiamen to hold series events to boost consumption in 2022

Xiamen will hold a series of 12 themed events in 2022 to boost consumption and invigorate the market, according to the municipal bureau of commerce on Jan 26.

The 12 themed promotional consumption events will be held both online and offline and include Spring Festival shopping, female consumption, households products, vehicles, local delicacies, and other themes with Xiamen characteristics.

The 12 events will be held in one main event venue which covers the whole city and six sub-venues which are in Xiamen's six districts.

In addition, the events will consist of seven key categories including shopping centers, retail sales, home building materials, catering and exhibitions, vehicles and electrical appliances, and weddings and leisure activities.

"We carried out extensive research on Xiamen's consumption patterns to create the 12 themes that are expected to boost consumption in 2022, and we aim to build Xiamen's brand as a consumer city through a series of events," said Zhang Fengqing, an official of the municipal bureau of commerce.

The city accumulated fruitful results in 2021 as its total retail sales of consumer goods totaled 258.41 billion yuan ($40.66 billion) last year, up 12.7 percent from that in 2020, ranking first in terms of growth rate in the province.
