Xiamen to open 10 shopping centers for 'consumption-oriented intl city' goal
Xiamen in Fujian Province plans to build 10 shopping malls with a total area of over 850,000 square meters.
For example, in Siming district, an 18.8 sq m shopping center will open, aimed at young and middle-aged families with spending power.
Another 7.3 sq m shopping center will combine sports facilities, sporting goods, and ecological resources.
Xiamen has been stepping up efforts in recent years to develop high-quality commercial areas based on public underground transportation.
At Jiangjunci Station on Xiamen Metro Line 1, the MIX commercial street - the first commercial street designed in line with Xiamen Metro – was formally launched in December 2021. Over 20 brands have expressed interest in the 7,000 sq m commercial space.
In March, Xiamen released an action plan aiming to build the city into a consumption-oriented international city.
The plan consists of 30 objectives grouped into six categories, including building internationally known regional consumption landmarks and establishing a consumption-leading highland.

Why Xiamen
-
Xiamen is one of the most economically competitive cities in China and was one of the first Special Economic Zones on the Chinese mainland. As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
