Xiamen's GDP up 7.5% in Q1

Xiamen in East China's Fujian province generated 178.7 billion yuan ($27.29 billion) in GDP in the first quarter of this year, an increase of 7.5 percent year-on-year, local media reported on April 24.

Statistics indicate that the city's total output value of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery in the first quarter of this year was 1.28 billion yuan, an increase of 3.8 percent.

During the same period, the city's added value of industries above designated size increased by 9.3 percent year-on-year. Of which, the high-tech manufacturing industry developed rapidly with an increase of 7.9 percent to account for 43.5 percent of the city's total, driving the industrial economy up by 3.5 percentage points.

In the first three months, the added value of services accounted for 62.4 percent of the city's total GDP, an increase of 7.5 percent, which raised GDP growth by 4.7 percentage points.

Xiamen showed an obvious investment demand in the first quarter of this year as the city achieved a fixed asset investment of 65.94 billion yuan, an increase of 16.3 percent year-on-year. The investment in the infrastructure construction sector, for example, increased 20.5 percent to 18.71 billion yuan.

Xiamen's foreign trade volume increased steadily in the first quarter of this year, with exports reaching 105.04 billion yuan, an increase of 15.3 percent, which was 1.9 percentage points and 1 percentage point more than the national and provincial average growth rate, respectively.

The actual use of foreign capital during the same period surged 40.9 percent to 10.85 billion yuan, showing a fast growth trend in foreign investment.

During the same period, the per capita disposable income of residents in Xiamen amounted to 20,287 yuan, up 7.2 percent, and the consumer prices rose 0.9 percent.

The city's total retail sales of consumer goods exceeded 78.14 billion yuan, an increase of 3.8 percent.

In addition, 115,100 new jobs were created in Xiamen during the same period.
