Xiamen's 'shopping in BRICS' event wins summit's praise

The 14th BRICS Summit was held on June 23 and the "shopping in BRICS" event that was launched in Xiamen, Fujian province was praised for boosting cooperation in the economic and trade sector.

During the "shopping in BRICS" event, which was launched in Xiamen on April 28, the cumulative sales of national major e-commerce platforms for products from Brazil, Russia, India, and South Africa exceeded 270 billion yuan ($40.32 billion), up 133 percent year-on-year.

The sales of products such as chocolate, wine, seasonings, and nuts from BRICS countries increased by 302.1 percent, 283.8 percent, 87.6 percent, and 82 percent, respectively.

Fortune Global 500 enterprises from Xiamen, including Xiamen C&D Inc and Xiamen ITG Group Corp, formed business partnerships with the BRICS countries.

Since the launch of the "shopping in BRICS" event, Xiamen has held over 10 online and offline supporting activities to facilitate the BRICS countries' products in the Chinese market.

For example, selected products from BRICS countries were streamed live on May 21. A more than 800-square-meter exhibition area in Xiangyu Cross-border E-commerce Industrial Park was set up to display nearly 700 products from BRICS countries.

The "shopping in BRICS" serial event showcased the special commodities and cultures from BRICS countries that are being sold on the Chinese market, as well as the vast opportunities that the Chinese market offers to BRICS countries and the rest of the world.

Xiamen will utilize the "shopping in BRICS" event as a starting point to deepen the economic and trade cooperation with BRICS countries and improve its internationalization.
