Xiamen posts stable economic growth in Jan-May

Statistics indicate that from January to May, Xiamen in Fujian province posted stable economic growth.

During the January-to-May period, the city's foreign trade volume reached 358.77 billion yuan ($53.61 billion), up 7.2 percent year-on-year, which was 0.7 percentage points higher than the province's average.

Of which, exports posted a strong growth of 11.5 percent year-on-year to 182 billion yuan while the imports grew 3.1 percent to 176.78 billion yuan in the first five months.

The added value of city's industries above designated size increased by 4.8 percent year-on-year, with 24 out of 35 industries recording growth.

The total industrial output value of the electronics industry and the machinery industry - two of the city's pillar industries - grew by 10.0 percent, and 21.5 percent, respectively.

The city achieved a total of 118.13 billion yuan in the retail sales revenue of consumer goods. The city's enterprises above designated size saw a surge in online retail sales, which increased by 15.6 percent annually to reach 26.22 billion yuan year-on-year.

From January to May, Xiamen's fixed asset investment reached 118.13 billion yuan, an increase of 7.1 percent year-on-year.

Of which, the city's secondary and tertiary industries completed a total of investments amounting to 22.860 billion yuan and 95.211 billion yuan, growing by 30.2 percent and 2.8 percent, respectively, and increased the city's investment growth by 1.4 and 5.7 percentage points.

The city's total general public budget revenue hit 79.67 billion yuan, an increase of 1.5 percent year-on-year, and the local general public budget revenue increased 3.9 percent to 47.81 billion yuan.

In the first five months, Xiamen's consumer prices rose 1.1 percent year-on-year and the price of services rose 1.6 percent.
