Investment forum shares new opportunities in digital economy

The 2022 International Investment Forum on International Cooperation of Digital Economy was held on Sept 8 in Xiamen city – situated in East China's Fujian province – with the aim of creating a global digital community with a shared future.

The forum took place during a major international investment fair being held in the city, the 22nd China International Fair for Investment and Trade, which ran to Sept 11. Also known as CIFIT, the fair is focusing on the digital economy and green investment.

The digital economy forum attracted representatives from foreign embassies and consulates in China, international organizations, digital economy authorities, digital economy enterprises, local governments and industrial parks.

Liu Dianxun, director-general of the China Investment Promotion Agency at the Ministry of Commerce, said that China's digital economy had developed rapidly – accounting for 39.8 percent of total GDP in 2021.

Liu added that China had taken an active part in international cooperation in the digital economy and would continue to deepen its relations with other countries in the emerging digital fields.

Maria Gustava, Mozambique's ambassador to China, delivered a keynote speech entitled "Building a Global Digital Community with a Shared Future". She said the digital economy had become one of the important areas of China-Africa cooperation in technology – and that innovation between both sides was constantly expanding.

The envoy added that Mozambique welcomed Chinese enterprises participating in the construction of its digital infrastructure networks and improvements to its levels of digital governance – as well as their involvement in digital public services and the development of digital business.

Gianpaolo Bruno, trade commissioner of the Italian Trade Commission's Beijing Office gave a talk in which he introduced the digital transformation of the Italian Industry 4.0 Program and shared his views on the opportunities for Italy and China to cooperate internationally in the digital economy.

In addition, a Cross-border Investment Promotion Platform for Digital Economy Industry was announced. This is tasked with attracting high-quality resources and promoting accurate matchmaking with digital economy industry clusters from all over the world.

The forum was organized by the Investment Promotion Agency at the Ministry of Commerce. The agency plans to continue to facilitate the deep integration of the digital technology and the real economy – and to promote industrial investment cooperation in the digital economy.
