Xiamen's Spring Festival consumer market proves vibrant

During the recent Spring Festival holiday, residents gathered on the streets and alleys of Xiamen, a testament to the city's development into an international consumption center. 

Xiamen offered high-quality experiences in dining, accommodation, transportation, tourism, shopping, and entertainment.

Over the eight-day Spring Festival holiday, the city's catering industry achieved a turnover of 1.06 billion yuan ($147 million), a 12.2-percent increase compared to the same period last year.

During the Spring Festival holiday, the booking volume for high-star hotels in Xiamen was double that of 2019. Popular areas for hotel bookings in the city included Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street, Zengcuo'an, and Xiamen Railway Station.

Xiamen's Airport handled a total of 4,476 inbound and outbound flights, transporting nearly 730,000 passengers during the Spring Festival holiday, a 41-percent increase in passenger volume compared to the previous year and a 7-percent increase over the same period in 2019.

Gulangyu Island has become extremely popular, drawing a large number of tourists with its unique attractions such as the Huil Hill Fortress special tour, the Xiangshan Hill temple fair, and other folk activities. 

Attractions such as the Xiamen Horticulture Expo Garden also attracted visitors from all over the country.

From Feb 10 to 17, the total turnover at 47 major commercial complexes, shopping malls, and supermarkets increased by 5.4 percent compared to the same period last year. Additionally, total customer traffic increased by 11.9 percent during this time.

Various major commercial districts have launched major exhibitions such as a Harry Potter flash event.
