On July 31, 136,000 parcels containing shoes, clothing, daily necessities, and other cross-border e-commerce goods were shipped out on the first domestic cargo route connecting BRICS cities – the Xiamen-Sao Paulo route.
With the export of this batch of goods, the total number of parcels exported via the BRICS route this year has reached 10.06 million parcels.
Thanks to growing cross-border e-commerce demand and strong economic and trade complementarity between China and Brazil, the BRICS route has been well-received by businesses since its opening on February 10, 2023.
As of July 30, 2024, Xiamen Customs had supervised 160 round-trip flights with a total cargo volume of 11,300 metric tons.
Among them, the export load factor reached 100 percent, primarily consisting of shoes, hats, clothing, daily necessities, and the like; imports amounted to 4,029.99 tons, mainly comprising fresh products.
"The BRICS route gives our company's cross-border e-commerce products sales channels in South America. Types of exports have expanded from the original clothing and footwear to include pet supplies and more, making our product range more diverse. The route has also fostered the development of some local sellers from Fujian who have established their own e-commerce platforms in Brazil, forming a complete supply chain system for production, supply, and sales," said Chen Wuchao, general manager of Xiamen Lianduo Trading Co Ltd.
Why Xiamen
-
Xiamen is one of the most economically competitive cities in China and was one of the first Special Economic Zones on the Chinese mainland. As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
