Recently, the phrase "City or Not City" has become popular on social media platforms, driven by the influx of foreign tourists into the country.
With China continuously optimizing its 72/144-hour transit visa-free policies for multiple countries, an increasing number of foreign tourists are coming to China. Many of them are arriving in Xiamen, Fujian province, to experience the city's blend of modernity and tradition.
On July 27, a group of young people dressed in bright orange T-shirts arrived at Zhongshan Road, holding checklist papers and eagerly exploring. The group was comprised of students from Baltimore, Maryland, and Orange County, California in the United States, as well as high school students from Xiamen.
Under the guidance of teachers and government representatives from both countries, they participated in the "Check-in at Zhongshan Road, Taste Traditional Brands" activity. This event is part of the "US Youth Ambassadors in Xiamen 2024" series.
The Chinese and American students visited Zhongshan Road in Xiamen, explored the "Amoy's Memory" exhibition hall, checked in at Huang Zehe Peanut Soup, and discovered other traditional Xiamen time-honored brands.
They experienced a traditional Minnan wedding ceremony at Jinlu Jewelry to understand the essence of traditional brand culture. Additionally, they visited the Huang Family Ancestral Hall at Jiangxia Ancestral Hall to experience the charm of Xiamen city, fostering understanding and friendship through personal exchanges.
Why Xiamen
-
Xiamen is one of the most economically competitive cities in China and was one of the first Special Economic Zones on the Chinese mainland. As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
