The Ministry of Commerce recently released its assessment results for the 2023 Cross-border E-commerce Comprehensive Pilot Areas, with the China (Xiamen) Cross-border E-commerce Comprehensive Pilot Area being rated as "remarkably effective".
Among the 165 cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot areas nationwide, it ranks in the top tier, making it the only pilot area in Fujian province to be rated in the top tier and the second time Xiamen has achieved this kind of ranking.
Since being approved in 2018, the Xiamen Cross-border E-commerce Comprehensive Pilot Area has leveraged Xiamen's geographical advantages, traditional foreign trade foundations, excellent port conditions, and industrial characteristics to establish dynamic online and offline platforms.
It has streamlined port logistics processes, expanded business volumes around local ports, accelerated reforms and innovations in the free trade zone and developed a high-quality and sustainable cross-border e-commerce ecosystem.
In recent years, Xiamen has introduced leading platforms such as Amazon, JD.com, and Alibaba, serving nearly 10,000 cross-border e-commerce business enterprises in Fujian.
This in turn has driven traditional industry clusters, such as footwear, clothing, bags, toys, and hardware and electromechanical industries to expand their presence in overseas markets.
Additionally, emerging industry clusters like optoelectronics, consumer electronics, kitchen and bathroom, and sports and outdoor industries have experienced rapid development.
Moreover, enterprises have shown continued enthusiasm for engaging in cross-border e-commerce business. As a result, the volume of cross-border e-commerce imports and exports has shot up by over 60 percent for five consecutive years.

As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
