The Xiamen-Memphis international freight route officially commenced operations on Nov 13, as an express cargo plane landed at Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport.
This enhanced route will now operate five flights per week, from Tuesday to Saturday, using B777 freighters to provide over 290 tons of air cargo capacity to local customers every week. This will shorten transportation times for some parcels and heavy cargo exported from Fujian to North America by one to two days.
To date, Xiamen has opened new cargo freight routes to Memphis, Atlanta, Dallas, Ontario, Anchorage, Paris, Manila, and Ho Chi Minh City, with a weekly cargo flight volume of 50 flights. Xiamen authorities will actively coordinate the opening of more intercontinental cargo routes to further boost the cargo throughput in Xiamen.
Why Xiamen
-
Xiamen is one of the most economically competitive cities in China and was one of the first Special Economic Zones on the Chinese mainland. As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
