Practicing Abstinence for Thunder God

Updated : 2018-04-04

The twenty-fourth day of the sixth month of the Chinese lunar calendar is believed to be the birthday of the thunder god Lei Zun, on which people would eat vegetarian meals to worship the god and pray for a secure life. In the past, Suzhou people abstained from meat from the first to the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month of the lunar calendar, and liked to order duck meat noodles to end their meatless fast.
