In return for her two-years of hard work, Chen was invited to attend the 28th International Astronomy Conference held in Beijing in 2012 with her 16 embroidery works of starry skies on display.

Attendees of the conference were amazed at the pieces after learning they were stitched by hand and were not photographs, and NASA workers even asked to buy them.

However, today there are not many young people who want to learn the antique handicraft, according to Chen.

"It's hard for embroidery works to be affordable because for ordinary people it's a high price," the embroiderer said. "What I can do is to hand my skills down to a younger generation."

As long as there are people who want to learn embroidery, Chen will teach them for free and she also volunteers to teach students how to stitch beautiful paintings once a week at a local school.
