The Suzhou Chinese Orchestra made its debut at the Palace of Arts in Budapest, Hungary on Jan 31, the ninth stop of the orchestra's European tour to celebrate the upcoming Spring Festival.

Under the baton of Chinese conductor Pang Kapang, the orchestra performed classic works such as the Spring Festival Ouverture, Jasmine Flower, the Butterfly Dream, Moon Reflected in the Er Quan, Lyric Variation, and Mocau Cappricio.

The concert, which mixed traditional Chinese folk music with modern orchestral music, was admired by more than 1,500 local residents, a record for the orchestra's European tour.

The Suzhou orchestra played another three works as an encore to waves of warm applause which lasted for 18 minutes.

"Chinese music is so beautiful," said an audience member from Vienna, Austria. "I was amazed by the performance."

Wang Zheng, the cultural counselor in the Chinese Embassy in Hungary, noted that he was glad to hear such brilliant Chinese music in Hungary. The year 2019 marks the 70th year of diplomatic relations between China and Hungary and the concert contributed significantly to the cultural exchanges between the two countries.
