Jointly established by Zhejiang University (ZJU) and Suzhou New District (SND), Suzhou Industrial Technology Research Institute of Zhejiang University has combined the economic and industrial development advantages of Suzhou and the scientific and technological achievements of ZJU.
The institute is already the innovation and industrialization headquarters of ZJU in Jiangsu. It aims to develop into a large innovation platform which can not only win support from the government, seek industry-university-research cooperation and market-oriented progress, but also integrate scientific and technological research and services, commercialization of achievements, industrial cultivation, and technological incubation.
According to the development needs of key industries in Jiangsu, the institute has planned to organize research teams from Zhejiang University and build up more than 10 research centers within five years. By then, its innovation and management service teams will encompass over 500 people and a number of high-growth and high-tech enterprises will be cultivated.
The institute now focuses on national and local strategic emerging industries and develops common and key technologies centering on the transformation and upgrading needs of smart city, high-end equipment, modernization of traditional Chinese medicine, medical instruments, public security, distributed energy, energy conservation, and environmental protection.
Meanwhile, the institute will strengthen cooperation with leading local enterprises, build a research and development centers with local colleges and universities, support high-tech enterprises, serve traditional manufacturing enterprises, accelerate the construction of a technological innovation system, and promote sustainable regional economic development.
