Suzhou New District (SND) plans to have its main economic indicators rise to be in the top three of all districts and cities governed by Suzhou in 2020.

To achieve this goal, SND has planned to increase its general public budget by 10 percent, its industrial output value above designated scale by 8 percent, and its industrial investment by 40 percent. It is also expecting 1 billion yuan ($141.8 million) in both registered foreign capital and actual foreign capital.

SND is gearing up to accelerate the construction of key projects and bring in 1,000 innovative enterprises, 300 high-tech companies, and 300 leading scientific and technological talents.

Aiming to revitalize 330 hectares of land for low usage and industrial output value, SND will strengthen research on pilot industries and strive to build a leading edge. The district has laid special emphasis on developing its medical equipment industry, hoping to complement the progress of Suzhou's bioengineering and pharmaceutical industry in an all-round way.

Fang Fang, director of the scientific and technological innovation bureau at SND, expressed confidence in achieving these goals.

"We will do our best to improve the innovation ecology, provide more accurate policy support, and further strengthen efforts to bring in high-tech enterprises and cultivate leading talents,” Fang said.“We will also make full use of our current resources and advantages to focus on the commercialization of research results."
