The Japan-based Lixil Group, the world's largest building materials and housing equipment company, plans to start the first phase of its new regional headquarters in Suzhou New District this July.

With investment of $100 million, the project will expand the current toilet seat cover business to a 3.3-hectare space and is expected to generate 1.3 billion yuan ($184 million) of revenue and 110 million yuan of tax by 2023.

The project also has a second phase targeting bathroom and kitchen facilities. It will cover 4 hectares with revenue and tax expected to reach 2.2 billion and 170 million yuan by 2027.

The regional headquarters will also play a pivotal role in Lixil's global research, purchasing, and logistics and distribution.

Created in 2011 through a merger of five of Japan's most successful building materials and housing companies, Lixil focuses on creating world-leading technology and innovation to make high-quality home products.

The group has approximately 270 subsidiaries and affiliates operating in more than 150 countries. They engage in a broad spectrum of housing and building-related businesses, ranging from manufacture and sales of housing and building products, materials and equipment, to the operation of home centers and homebuilding franchise chains.
